Next: what to do

Part 1 — fresh start

Want a clean slate? Do these four things

Enough to get TaxBooks running on your chart and this year’s activity. No history required.

  1. 1

Export your Chart of Accounts from QuickBooks

Do this: In QuickBooks Online → Chart of Accounts → Export as CSV. Save it on your computer.

  2. 2

    Start TaxBooks

Do this: Sign up or sign in at TaxBooks. Open your workspace.

  3. 3

    Import that CSV into TaxBooks

Do this: TaxBooks → Deck → Chart → Import QuickBooks CSV. Drop the file you saved.

  4. 4

Upload this year’s bank and card statements

Do this: TaxBooks → Deck → Sources → Bank and Cards. Drop current-year statements (PDF or CSV). Keep copies on your computer too.

Part 2 — keep your history

Also care about the past? Bring the last 2–3 years

Export each report from QuickBooks, save it on your computer, then upload it in TaxBooks so we learn how you already run the books.

  1. Do this
    1. Export Profit & Loss → save on your computer

QuickBooks → Reports → Profit and Loss → last 2–3 years → Export CSV/Excel. Keep the files.

Then in TaxBooks: Deck → Sources → QuickBooks → drop the file (or pick P&L).

  2. Do this
    2. Export Balance Sheet → save on your computer

    QuickBooks → Reports → Balance Sheet → as-of each year-end → Export CSV/Excel. Keep the files.

Then in TaxBooks: Deck → Sources → QuickBooks → drop it (or pick Balance sheet). We seed opening balances.

  3. Do this
    3. Export classifications → save on your computer

QuickBooks → Reports → Transaction List or Transaction Detail by Account → CSV. Keep the files.

Then in TaxBooks: Deck → Sources → QuickBooks → drop it (or pick Transactions). We import lines and seed match rules.

  4. Do this
    4. Copy prior-year tax returns → keep on your computer

Last 2–3 years of filed returns (1040, 1120-S, K-1…). Save the PDFs locally first.

Then in TaxBooks: Deck → Sources → Tax → Personal / Professional → drop the PDFs (or Sources → QuickBooks → Tax return).

Part 1 alone = fresh start. Part 2 = we learn your history too. Either way, keep your exports on your computer as backup.
